YAL-KU LAGOON

A don’t miss in Akumal!  Wonderful snorkeling for both adults and children with several easy entryways into the lagoon. Known as a “caleta” Yal-Ku is a fresh water outlet connected to the sea.  Since it is surrounded on 3 sides by rocks and land,  it is a calm and protected outlet for snorkeling.  The depth varies from 5 to 15 feet.  You will see amazing tropical fish like Angel Fish & Parrot Fish.

The grounds surrounding the lagoon feature gardens and pathways, with beautiful sculptures.  You can rent a palapa and hang out for the day.  There are showers, bathrooms, changing rooms and lockers.

Depending on the season Yal-Ku opens at 9:00 AM. Best to be there early, because around 11:00 it becomes a bit more crowded and the water becomes murky.

Entrance is approximately $15 USD per person and they do rent snorkel gear and life vests.
